- A video game banned in the UK and Ireland and facing restricted sales in the United States due to its violent content was a fine piece of art, the game’s publisher said on Wednesday. Sony and Nintendo have confirmed that they will no longer support publication of the game for their various platforms.
- The popular children’s Web site Webkinz.com went down for more than 36 hours to the dismay of thousands children across the country. Webkinz are wildly popular stuffed animals originally released by the Ganz gift company in 2005. The toys are similar to many other small soft toys, but they come with a special code on their labels that allows access to the Webkinz World Web site to adopt a virtual version of the pet for virtual interaction.
- Enemy Territory: Quake Wars will have in-game ads. Neil Postlethwaite, Managing Director for Splash Damage, said in his post:
For the last four years, we’ve put all of our effort into making Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars. So, we’re not planning to ship this game and walk away. We want to keep supporting ETQW in as many ways as possible. We’ll be maintaining the persistent stats servers and the community site, and continuing to support ETQW with updates and improvements…
- If you are a fan of Doritos, you will be able to download and play the first-ever consumer-created Xbox LIVE Arcade game for free in near future. But before that, you can even help to design the game by submitting your own ideas. Five finalists will get to work side-by-side with Xbox LIVE Arcade development teams to build playable versions of their game concept which will be available online. Doritos-inspired video game ideas can be submitted at http://www.snackstrongproductions.com between June 21 and July 29, 2007. Submissions must describe an original idea for a Doritos-inspired video game in no more than 500 words along with any other original elements or components gamers would like to have considered as part of their entry, to help describe, depict or illustrate the original idea.
